Perhaps I should have waited on this post until 2017 to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the notorious "Fountain". In 1917, Marcel Duchamp apparently shocked the art world by exhibiting what appeared to be a urinal, but renamed the piece of plumbing "Fountain", and turned it into art.
The idea was was to jar our senses - even if only momentarily - to such a degree that we could remove ourselves from our associations with the mundane, and see an everyday object as a thing of beauty.
Alas, the world of blogging seldom waits, so I'm posting now. Please enjoy five different drinking fountains of yesteryear that (thankfully) remain on the gorgeous and historical campus of San Diego State University.
Though still functional and well-used, these vessels are indeed things of beauty, so I thought I'd share them with you all. Thanks for taking a look!
