I'm not exactly secretive about how much fun I have playing with Javier Escovedo and the City Lights - I have a blast playing Javier Escovedo's great songs, and to call this band (Xavier Roji Anaya on guitar, Thomas Kitsos on bass) awesome is an understatement. So really, any show with this group is a treat for me, but August 30th's show at the Tin Can Alehouse in Bankers Hill should be extra fun, since Seattle band Tomten and San Diego band Saint Shameless will both be on the bill with us.
I've never seen Tomten live, but check out this video here -- if they're half as good live as they sound here (and I'm fairly certain they are!) this show is going to be a very cool one indeed.
And what about Saint Shameless? Well, full disclosure: I'm biased, because I'm a huge Stevie Rodrgiguez fan. Every time I've been able to catch him playing with San Diego rock royalty the Dragons, I've done so, and I even had the distinct pleasure of being in the same band with him in the short-lived, but totally awesome band the Tuggs (along with Joe Guevara and Mark Monteith). So of course, I can't wait to catch their set. I'm including a Youtube video I uploaded a while back of the band playing at Bar Pink. Even though the vocals weren't dialed in yet (this was the first song of the night), it's worth including, if for no other reason then to basque in Mr. Rodriguez's amazing stage presence.
Hope to see many of you at the Tin Can, and as always -- thanks for staying tuned in!
