I had a lot of fun playing the Tin Can last night with Javier Escovedo and the City Lights. I'm including two videos from San Diego band Saint Shameless and Seattle trio Tomten. Unfortunately I can't film myself playing, so no City Lights footage, though I am including a cool shot of the band by Mark Habegger. As usual, I had a blast playing Javier's great songs with this awesome band, and I'm really looking forward to a busy fall and winter with these guys.
I'd checked out and enjoyed Tomten's music online before seeing and meeting them last night. Besides being really cool people, their set was awesome. It was great seeing a band daring not to be a cookie-cutter ensemble these days, and really going for their own thing. We enjoyed talking a bit about music and influences after the show, and I'm really glad these guys are on tour, bringing their music to new audiences.
I had, on the other hand, already seen Saint Shameless, so it was no surprise that they rocked, and rocked hard. I love these guys, and am super biased, since the one and only Steve Rodriguez is in this band. This band has everything a rock band needs, as you can see and hear in this video: solid musicianship, hook-filled songs, and plenty of 'tude.
