Well, August is here, and with it an extra special month of shows. Most of you know I'm pretty active when it comes to posting upcoming shows and events, but this month really is an extra dose of musical awesomeness. As part of Gary Wilson and The Blind Dates, I'll be opening for Foxygen at the Belly Up, the Fonda Theater, and the Observatory in a couple weeks. We will also be part of the Burger Records BBQ Festival at Los Globos at the end of the month, sharing the bill with R. Stevie Moore, The Garden, Cherry Glazzer, White Fang, and Jacuzzi Boys, among many other great acts.
I will also be playing another exciting show with Javier Escovedo and the City Lights. Javier -as many of you know - is really a part of rock 'n roll history, having been a key member of both the Zeros (which also featured El Vez) and The True Believers (along with brother Alejandro Escovedo). As impressive as that is, Javier isn't one to look back, and his new music is more exciting than ever. Our band -which features Thomas Kitsos (CPC Gangbangs and the Night Marchers) and Xavier Roji Anaya (The Phantoms and Action Andy & the Hi-Tones) - is getting stronger with every show, and I can't wait to see this inspiring project develop into the future.
As always, I'll be keeping it local, holding down weekly gigs with both Lady Dottie and the Diamonds at Café 21 every Saturday night (my lifelong friend Joe Guevara, incidentally, is not only a Diamond and in *I Wish I*, but is also one of Gary's Blind Dates). On Wednesday evenings you'll find me keeping cool and old school with Westside Inflection at my favorite spot in La Mesa, the Riviera Supper Club.
Looking forward to see friends and music lovers at these shows, and thanks for staying tuned in!
