Pretty much anyone familiar with the San Diego music scene is familiar with Lady Dottie and the Diamonds. When I returned to my hometown San Diego after living in Europe for almost a decade (and New Orleans before that), this was the first band I saw. I loved the band then, and I still love it!
I originally checked the band out because my life-long friend Joe Guevara is an essential part of the band, and one of its founders. Joe plays keyboards, harp (harmonica), and sings with the band. Anyone who has seen Two Wolves will recognize Stephen Rey on bass, and then of course there's the one and only Dottie herself on lead vocals.
Dottie is the real deal - you can hear her life and her story in her voice. It truly is a pleasure and a privilege every time I get to play drums with this band. Believe it or not, Dottie turns 70 this year, and I have a feeling this is going to be a great year for her and the band. Although Lady Dottie and the Diamonds have received several San Diego Music Awards, and played thousands of amazing live shows, this rock 'n roll/r&b/soul band has plenty of gas left in their dance-party tanks!
