The Casbah, But Not That Casbah

I love old decorative sidewalks, especially if they bear the name of a hotel, restaurant, or club. This one on El Cajon Boulevard in City Heights leads patrons to the entrance of a pho restaurant (inexplicably resembling a castle), and this restaurant has been there ever since I was a kid.

Anyone interested in music in Southern California has heard about the Casbah. In the 90s, the Casbah hosted several young bands like Nirvana and the Smashing Pumpkins,  who of course went on to worldwide fame. This Casbah is clearly not connected, however, since it apparently pre-dates that Casbah by over half a century.

As far as I can tell, this is a San Diego mystery, so if anyone has any info. on this, I'd love to hear about ti!
