Friends and music fans here in San Diego are used to seeing me post about shows at the Riviera Supper Club in La Mesa, but that's usually for Westside Inflection, who have had a fun and successful Wednesday residency at the venue for some time now. The Riv's clientele, old school vibe, great food and drinks, friendly staff, non-existent cover charge, and all-ages policy make this one of my favorite Southern California venues.
I'm very excited, though, to announce that I'll be drumming with Javier Escovedo and the City Lights there on Saturday, October 25. All of us are pumped after our sold out show at the Casbah with the King Khan and BBQ Show a couple weeks back, and now looking forward to playing one of San Diego's coolest retro venues. The band, consisting of Javier (lead vocals, guitar), Tom Kitsos (bass, backing vocals), Xavier Roji Anaya (guitar), David Robles (keyboard and guitar) and Yours Truly on drums, is sounding tighter than ever.
I feel confident that fans of Javier's work with the Zeros, the True Believers, and Chariot will agree with me that his new music is every bit as captivating as those awesome bands. Javier is known the world over, and with good reason. I'd be at the Riv for this show regardless -- either as a drummer or fan, --so I'm thrilled be both. See you all there on October 25!
